What Happens When You Settle a Personal Injury Case?

When you and your attorney decide to settle your personal injury claim in Annapolis, you have agreed that the person who caused your injury will pay a certain amount to compensate you. Whether your claim arises out of a car accident, medical malpractice, or elder abuse, a settlement will be binding on both parties.

If you are injured because of another’s negligence, your attorney will discuss your options for going to trial or pursuing a settlement. Personal injury settlements result when you and your attorney agree to accept damages from the party who hurt you in exchange for not pursuing a trial. For example, if someone has injured you in a car accident because he ran a red light, his insurance company may offer you money for your medical expenses, lost wages, and general pain and suffering.
