A Look at Erb's Palsy

Erb’s Palsy is a birth injury in Annapolis that results when an infant’s brain is deprived of oxygen during the birthing process. This injury results in paralysis of the infant’s arm.

Erb’s Palsy is a birth injury that involves damage to the brachial plexus, a network of nerves near the head and neck. This bundle of nerves is the source of all nerves that branch out to the arms. When the brachial plexus suffers an injury, an infant can lose movement or feeling in the shoulder, arm, hand, and fingers. Sadly, this injury is often the result of medical malpractice. Medical malpractice cases arise if a physician or nurse stretches the infant’s neck too far to one side during the delivery process. While some babies do eventually recover movement and feeling in the affected arm, such a recovery may require daily physical therapy or other exercises. Parents may be required to take off work to devote time to caring for their child. Without proper medical care, some infants do not recover full function in the affected arm. If a healthcare provider is responsible for your infant’s Erb’s Palsy, you have the right to file a lawsuit against the hospital and physician. potential-birth-injury
